Removal of clay and dirt from above the south wall Bryozoan beds. These layers contain Bumastus, Radnoria, Starfish, Crinoids and Cystoids. The area exposed to date is about 160' wide by 250' long.  This a view of the western section of the Cystoid horizon. This area of 50' x 175' has yielded a few Cystoids (Caryocrinites ornatus), about 50 Dalmanites have also been collected. In addition 1 super Arctinurus and several  other Crinoids were found.

Kent Smith cutting up the Cystoid layer. We have developed a technique that frees up the pinching problem that we run into when we try to split un-weathered shale. By cutting along the back edge of our dig spot, the shale comes up in larger sections without breaking into small pieces and possibly breaking a specimen.

This is Paul Chinnici digging a section of the Cystoid layer. Along the edge of the dark area in front of Paul, an Arctinurus, a Lyriocrinus
and 2 Caryocrinites were found.

Gene Thomas is hard at work searching for Calymene niagarensis in the cap layer of the Cystoid horizon.
